Limpopo schools improve

THE five-year decline in matric results has finally ended for Limpopo after it achieved a 57 percent pass rate

The province's results were announced during a function at the Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane yesterday.
Limpopo had been in a downward spiral in matric results since 2005, the worst being in 2009 when it produced a disappointing 48,9percent.
Announcing the 9percent improvement MEC for education Namane Masemola said he was also happy that the examinations were "incident-free".
As expected, Mbilwi High School became the top school in the province after all of its 327 pupils who sat for matric exams passed, with 272 obtaining a university entrance.
Mbilwi has been the pride of the province since the dawn of democracy in South Africa, resulting in it being included in the Club 100 schools performing excellently in maths and physical science.
For the first time, Sekhukhune became the third performing district in terms of matric results, exchanging the fifth and last position with Waterberg.
Of the 30 top achievers in the province, 22 were females.
Dendron High School, regarded as one of the top 10 schools in the country, also produced the province's top performer Sandra Ngoepe.
To acknowledge its excellent work, Masemola said a contractor was already on site to build state-of-the-art facilities at the school and its feeder primary school.
